“The Well”

She came to the well in the heat of the day
To avoid all the whispers, the stares and the shame
She knew what they say when she wasn’t around
Five men had loved her and five men had gone
She’d found another but she still had no home
Just a bad reputation, the talk of the town
But she just wanted some some water
She just wanted some water

To her surprise, in the hot midday sun
Sat a tired-looking stranger, she started to run
But before she could move, he said “give me a drink.”
With much hesitation, she looked in his eyes
The stranger smiled softly, and she wondered why
What does someone like him want with someone like me
She just wanted some water
She just wanted some water

The stranger said Daughter, if you only knew
Just who it is you’re talking to
It would be you, not me, asking to drink
This water I have, if you take just a sip
You’ll never, no never, go thirsty again
Give me this water, it’s just what I need
She just wanted some water
She just wanted some water

Then something inside her started to change
Just a word from this man and now she’s not the same
He spoke right to my heart–might this be the Christ?
So she ran to the town, telling all who would hear
About this water she’d found, running so free and clear
Come see the man who’s changed my whole life
And I just wanted some water (That’s all I was looking for)
Oh I just wanted some water (But He gave me so much more)
I just wanted some water
She came to the well, in the heat of the day
